Flagship centre nearer completion
ONE of Oldham’s largest flagship medical centres is nearing completion.
The 10-storey integrated health centre dominates the Cheapside skyline as it stands on part of the civic centre car park.
The £12 million facility will house a range of NHS health and social care services from GPs and dentists, drop-in facilities, minor surgery and an out-of-hours service.
As well as these, it will incorporate the current walk-in centre in John Street, a chemist’s shop, occupational therapy, chiropody, social care and mental health services.
If that were not enough, Oldham Primary Care Trust’s state-of-the-art centre will also feature a community drug and alcohol clinic, a citizen’s advice and welfare rights service and a cafe.
The building, which is due to open in 2009, will replace both Marjory Lees and Cannon Street health centres.
