Beaten rider back on horse for next challenge

SHAW horse-rider Liane Robinson may have missed out on a top prize at the British TREC Championships, but she returned this week ready to tackle her next challenge.

The 43-year-old only rode in her first contest a couple of years ago, and admitted: “I am still learning.”

The three-day British Championships, held in Bakewell, Derbyshire, involved an all-day ride across varied terrain, negotiating natural obstacles and hazards in a stiff time which meant sticking to a rapid pace.

Liane said: “I switched my brain off on the grids section of the orienteering and totally messed that bit up.

“Had I not done that, I think I would have been in second place.”

The lapse of concentration resulted in Liane and her horse, Tulliver, falling down the ranking after a high score won by sticking to the strict time requirements of the 35km course.

The mother-of-two was among 100 riders taking part, and Liane competed in level three, the second highest of four levels.

She is now preparing for her final event of the year, at the end of the month, again in Derbyshire. Liane is keen to pass on her love of the sport, and has joined ranks with Friezland User Group to organise a local competition at Heights, Delph.

The contest, over a 13 km trail, takes place on Sunday, September 7. To enter, contact Jean Tennant on 0161-665 3536.

TREC was introduced to Britain 10 years ago by the British Horse Society, and is based on the French discipline Le Trec.
