It’s party time

LEES folk got into the party mood with a good old fashioned knees up to celebrate the rescue of their local post office.
Young and old came together at Springhead football club to toast the popular local facility, which was saved by a Chronicle backed campaign after an announcement in June that it would close.
The celebrations were opened by 88-year-old Nellie Bennett, one of the oldest residents who regularly uses the service, and postmaster Asam Rashid.
Pampering treats, including manicures, were on offer for the ladies, while the Lees Youth band rustled up a little music for the jubilant crowds during the afternoon long event yesterday.
Lees was one of a number of post offices which were earmarked for closure, with Buckstones Road, Shaw, Egerton Street, Brackley Square, Greenacres Moor, Huddersfield Road, Lower Rushcroft, Shaw, Ripponden Road, Moorside and Scouthead post offices all due to close.
