Poles install window to memory of John Paul
Date published: 26 August 2008
CATHOLICS from across Oldham gathered at St Patrick’s Church as a new window commemorating the life of Pope John Paul II received a special blessing.
The borough’s Polish community raised more than £6,000 for the stained glass depicting the pontiff — who died in 2005 — and scenes from his life, and now it has received an official blessing from Archbishop Szczepan Wesoly.
Other high-profile guests in the congregation included the Polish ambassador, Barbara Tuge-Erecinska, and Piotr Nowotniak, the new Polish consul in Manchester.
