A SEA of pink turned into a flood of cash for the the new breast cancer unit at the Royal Oldham Hospital after supporters staged a fund-raising ‘pink ball’.
The event, organised on behalf of breast cancer sufferer Jaynie Huxley by her friend Karen Saville, saw hundreds of revellers deck themselves out in pink to raise more than £1,800 for the new Victoria Breast Care Unit.
Jaynie, who has battled breast cancer since 2001, wanted to raise the cash for the link4pink appeal for the breast care unit because it has a special place in her heart.
She said: “There has been real change in breast cancer care since the opening of the new unit.
“From waiting weeks for a diagnosis, women can often receive one on the same day, which makes a huge difference psychologically.
“The money will go towards building a new conservatory at the unit, which will give patients somewhere pleasant to relax while they are waiting for the results of blood tests. We also have lots of visiting specialists from Christie’s at the unit, so it would be nice if we could raise some money to boost the office space. I would really like to thank all the people who organised and attended the event, as well as all the musicians and artists who kindly offered their services for free.”
