Oldhamers have been making a beeline for the local swimming pools — to help escape the weather.
A constant diet of gloom, rain and occasional bouts of sunshine has made indoor events much more popular.
And with walking, golf and cycling less feasible pastimes with continuing showers, swimming pools have seen an increase in customers.
Steve Eyre, marketing manager of Oldham Community Leisure, said: “The weather has not been conducive to outdoor activities.
“And, not surprisingly, indoor activities have become more popular.
“There has been an increase in the number of swimmers at local pools. We don’t have a percentage yet, but it is significant.”
For many, the local swimming pool has been a magnet for family activities.
Failsworth Sports Centre was one venue offering a family fun time.
Sessions have been held between Monday and Friday during the school holidays.
A similar session has been taking place at Royton Sports Centre and another at Crompton pool.
Many swimmers are believed to have been diving back into the sport as a result of the Olympics.
