Animal charity takes to the catwalk

STYLE-savvy Oldhamers are invited to a fashion show with a difference.

The Oldham branch of the RSPCA is hosting the glittering event at Tokyo Project next month in a bid to raise money for the charity.

The show will feature clothes donated to local RSPCA shops and staff are urging everyone to dig out items they no longer want and hand them over for the catwalk show.

Everything modelled on the night will be for sale and the show will be based on classic, smart, night, retro, vintage, plus size, every day and glamour.

There will also be a weddings section and future brides are encouraged to come along and bag some bargains.

The event, which is sponsored by the Evening Chronicle, takes place from 6.30pm on Thursday, October 9, at the Roscoe Street club.

Mandy Tierney, branch manager at the RSPCA’s Rhodes Bank centre, said: “We are urging everyone to get involved with this event and raise money for the RSPCA. Anyone who wants to donate items for the show can call the centre on 0161-624 4725.

“It costs £500,000 a year to run the centre and we don’t get any help from the government so we rely on events like this to keep us going. We are hoping to raise £5,000 on the night which will go towards running the centre and mobile welfare clinic.

“If this show is a success we are hoping to run a similar event every year.”

There will also be an auction on the night and anyone able to donate prizes is asked to call Mandy at the number above.

Tickets are £5 and are available from Tokyo Project, any RSPCA shop and the Rhodes Bank animal centre.
