329 reasons to adopt a celeb

Date published: 05 September 2008

MORE than 300 children in the North-West are waiting for new families.

Now Oldham Adoption Service is on the lookout for a local celebrity to attend a special event encouraging people to adopt.

The service, in association with Adoption 22, is holding an information event in Manchester in November for anyone considering adoption.

And they are asking Oldham residents to nominate someone in the public eye who has a connection with adoption to support and highlight the event.

Both services are appealing to people in Oldham and the North-West to suggest a local celebrity, for whom the subject of adoption is close to their heart.

Whether they have been adopted themselves, have adopted brothers or sisters or have adopted their own children, all are welcome to attend.

Adoption 22 is an umbrella organisation funded by the 22 local authorities in the North-West, whose main aim is to find families for children in the region who are waiting to be adopted.

Oldham Council’s Adoption Service is looking for 31 new families for children who are currently in the their care, especially those willing to care for older children, family groups, children with disabilities, and children from ethnic minorities.

Councillor Kay Knox, lead member for children, young people and families said: “There are currently 329 children in the North- West waiting for a new family.

“This free event is an excellent opportunity for people to find out what’s involved in adoption and to chat to people who already offer children a new life.”

If anyone knows of a celebrity that can help promote the event, call Adoption22 on 0161 764 9185 or email admin@adoption22.co.uk
