Olympic medallist Chris Newton: Freedom of Manchester
ROYTON cyclist Chris Newton is to be given the freedom of the city of Manchester along with the rest of his Olympic team mates.
Team GB’s cycling team brought home seven gold medals from Beijing and Manchester City Council wants to publicly thank them for raising the sport’s profile. The Olympic team is based at the National Cycling Centre at Manchester Velodrome.
Chris (34) won a bronze in the 40k points race in Beijing to add to medals won at previous Olympics in Athens, Atlanta and Sydney. Team GB will receive the honour, along with former England and Manchester United star Sir Bobby Charlton at a civic reception in Manchester.
