TWO boys have been arrested after pepper spray was used at Failsworth School.
The police, fire and ambulance were called to the new £26 million school in Brierley Avenue at 10am yesterday following the incident in a science room.
Eight pupils and five members of staff were treated by ambulance staff at the scene but nobody was taken to hospital.
Police have confirmed that two juveniles have been arrested, one on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon (a knuckle duster) and one on suspicion of possessing pepper spray.
School business manager Phil Deakin said that the two boys involved, both from Year 11, have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
Head teacher David Johnson commented: “The incident has been dealt with professionally by the school team.
“The pupils and staff showed great maturity and remained calm throughout.”
