Students’ art inspired by greats goes on display

Date published: 08 September 2008

GALLERY Oldham is hosting the work of talented secondary school students in an exhibition entitled art@16.

The exhibition, which will be on display between September 13 and November 8, provides a showcase for young artists studying in Oldham.

The work on show has been created by 15 and 16 year olds and is arranged under the themes of creatures, identity, imaginative, responses, natural form, locations, 3D and culture.

A selection of student sketchbooks will also be on display so that visitors can see how ideas for work develop and grow.

A wide variety of materials, techniques and technology have been used to create the works included in the project.

Among the sculpture, ceramics and paintings are Picasso inspired portraits, Monet influenced landscapes and beautifully crafted clay vessels.

Anyone visiting art@16 will be able to vote for their favourite piece of work in the People’s Prize competition. The winning pupil will receive a prize donated by the Secondary Art Network.
