IN search of a new home . . . RSPCA staff (from the left) Luke Johnson, Sam Williams and branch manager Mandy Tierney look after the new arrivals.
THE RSPCA is desperately seeking homes for 23 Persian cats rescued from a house and taken to its Oldham centre.
The malnourished pets, six male and 17 female, were found in Hyde, along with eight chickens and a snake.
Although the animals were not being abused they were being kept in cramped conditions, with many of the cats having never seen daylight.
Cathy Hyde, RSPCA chief inspector for Manchester, said: “Persian cats need lots of looking after and their coats need to be regularly groomed to make sure they don’t become matted. They also need to have their eyes and ears cleaned to stop infection.
“I think the owner of these cats was breeding them and then selling them so he wasn’t showing them any affection or love and many of them were squashed into cupboards or sheds.
“Their litter trays were full and the house was very dirty. Most of the cats will need treatment for eye, ear and skin infections and they were all extremely dehydrated.
“We are now looking for homes for all 23 cats and we will make sure they are all neutered, microchipped and vaccinated before we let them go for adoption.
“They are very affectionate animals and if you treat them well you will get a lot of love back from them.”
If you are interested in adopting one or more of the Persian cats or any other animal at the Rhodes Bank centre call 0161-624 4725.
The RSPCA will host a fashion show at Tokyo Project, Roscoe Street, in aid of the charity on Thursday, October 9.
