CRIME across Hollinwood has dropped during the summer months according to latest figures.

Comparing July and August, 2008, with July and August, 2007, police took fewer calls for nearly all crime types.

Youth disorder dropped from 252 incidents to 228, while reports of criminal damage went from 83 to 61. Vehicle crime was down from 48 to 40, robbery dropped from five call outs to two and burglaries other than dwellings also dropped from 22 to 14. The only increase was with burglaries into dwellings which rose from 27 to 30.

Inspector Dave Stopford said: “The drop in crime is a testament to the hard work going on.”

Inspector Stopford said officers had conducted a lot of alcohol seizures but a key problem was adults buying booze for young people.

He said officers had also carried out home visits in recent months when confiscating alcohol from young people.

He said: “We used CCTV in Hollinwood and two adults were given an £80 on-the- spot fine.”

LEAD theft and petrol station drive-offs were being reported more to police covering the Hollinwood area, according to Inspector Stopford.

THE provisional date of the next Hollinwood Area Committee will be on November 3 where the congestion charge and how it affects Hollinwood will be up for discussion.
