New ladders a step to safety

A LADDER amnesty has been organised in a bid to cut the number of deaths and injuries caused by falls at work.
Across the country last year 45 people were killed and 3,750 suffered serious injuries after falling from ladders.
Oldham Council is urging local businesses to hand in their old ladders and get a new pair with a discount of up to 50 percent.
Councillor Mark Alcock, cabinet member for environment and infrastructure, said: “Every year many people are killed or seriously injured in falls from ladders. It is essential that ladders are in good condition.”
Ladders can be handed in and exchanged for a new set at a reduced price at Williamson’s, Brook Street, TJ Dobsons Ltd, Tattersall Street, HSS Hire Shops, Oldham Road and Lees Road and Speedy Hire Centres (Northern), Coldhurst Street.
