Scooters can still use bridge

FEARS that disabled people might face a lengthy detour if Saddleworth’s Ladhill Bridge is closed have been allayed.
Consultation on the proposed closure of the bridge over Chew Brook, in Greenfield, has now ended, but disabled pensioner Bill Green (84), of Manchester Road, feared he would be faced with an extra 10-minute journey on his scooter along Manchester Road and would get wet in bad weather.
But Oldham Council has said that motorised scooters for the disabled would still be allowed over the bridge even if it was closed to general traffic.
A council spokesman said: “The proposals are to only stop motor vehicles travelling across Ladhill Bridge. All cyclists, wheelchairs, pushchairs and mobility scooters will still be able to use the bridge while it is closed.”
