Angelic Clair’s songwriting proves a big hit

A BUDDING local poet has reached the semi-final of a prestigious national songwriting competition at her first attempt.

Clair Ellerton (31), of Barmouth Walk, Hollinwood, who uses the pen-name Street Angel, is a former court worker and Oldham Bears rugby league club cheerleader.

The mother of two, a Dusty Springfield fan, entered three songs in the UK Songwriting Contest after an 11-year break from her main hobby, poetry.

All three of her songs were placed in the top 15 per cent of the 6,200 entries from across the country.

Clair is now preparing to record with a group of musicians from Luton who she met via the Internet and hopes to enter the John Lennon Songwriting Competition next year.

But even if she has success as a songwriter, Clair, a former Hathershaw School pupil, would prefer to pursue her poetry writing in the hope of clinching a publishing deal.

“ I hope to make a living doing the thing I love,” she said.
