Pictures provide a tonic

Talented young photographers were sent out across the borough with the task of capturing the spirit of Oldham.

The results were hundreds of photographs for judges to sift through.

Their remit was to pick six to take pride of place in Oldham’s flagship integrated care centre, to make it a more welcoming place for the thousands of people who will pass through its doors each year.

The winners each received a Nikon D40 camera to further their photographic careers, and the promise that their snaps will feature as vast landscapes in the town centre building.

The 10-storey supercentre is due to open next summer as a one-stop shop for a range of health and social care services.

Located on the civic centre car park, Cheapside, it will be the only one of its kind in Oldham, and the views will be seen by all who enter.

The competition was for visual arts students at Oldham College. Gail Richards, chief executive of Oldham Primary Care Trust, said: “We clearly have some fabulously talented young people in Oldham. The photographs they have produced are brilliant.

“The winning photographs will be used with colour theming to help people find their way around the centre.”
