Hot chippy has stomach for a fry-off
Date published: 17 September 2008
FIRST plaice could be on the menu for a tip-top chip shop hoping to bring home the bacon in this year’s battle of North-West chippies.
Owners Wendy and Martin Greenwood, of Foz’s Fish Bar, in Propps Hall Drive, Failsworth, are hoping to batter their rivals — even though they have only been in business at the former butcher’s shop for six months.
Mrs Greenwood (36) said: “We learned the trade from my sister, who runs a successful chippy in Middleton. Business has been booming since we opened, with customers queuing out of the door most nights — especially on Fridays.
Mystery
“The secret is using the best quality fresh fish fried to order so we don’t compromise on the taste.
“I wouldn’t serve anything to customers I wouldn’t be happy to eat myself.”
Foz’s has already made the top five. It will now await a mystery customer along with Foster’s Fish & Chips (Alderley Edge), Frydays (Manchester), Harper’s (Southport) and The Grapes (Wigan) to decide who progresses to the national event.
