Choir hoping for a boost from TV

MUSICAL-MINDED men are being invited to sing out for Saddleworth.
Saddleworth Male Voice Choir is looking for more singers with a reasonable singing voice and a commitment to learn — and enjoy — themselves.
Spokesman John Watts said: “The recent TV programme ‘Last Choir Standing’ will have whetted the appetites of potential new members to come along to a few rehearsals to see what it is all about. It was obvious that the choirs featured in the show gained enormous pleasure from choral singing.
“It is no different in Saddleworth where the choir offers regular concerts, competitions and social events.”
The choir rehearses every Wednesday at 7.30pm in the parish centre/old school in Lee Street, Uppermill.
There are four sections in the choir — top tenor, second tenor, baritone and bass.
Anyone interested is invited to come along and sit in at rehearsals or to contact membership secretary Stuart Iles on 0161-665 2596.
The choir is performing a half-hour spot on Sunday, October 5, at Saddleworth Voluntary Showcase at the Civic Hall, Uppermill, from 2.30pm.
