Night-time crackdown hits crime
Date published: 23 September 2008
NOCTURNAL thieves have met their match thanks to a new operation by police in Failsworth.
Officers have been working through the night to catch opportunist criminals and have made nine arrests for burglary, street robbery and vehicle crime in the past week.
Thanks to intelligence from the local community, police were able to clamp down on suspicious activity and patrol the hotspot areas from where the most reports were received.
Police are now asking residents to keep up the good work and tell them about any suspicious activity they notice.
Insp David Stopford said: “Criminals are usually opportunistic so it is important that residents remember to lock their doors and windows when they leave a room to prevent any temptation.
“Also, when leaving a car unattended, we ask people to remove any items from display as even something of little value, such as a satellite navigation cradle or coat, can tempt thieves to break in.
“We will continue to mount such operations on a regular basis to catch and convict those intent on committing crime in Failsworth.
“By all working together we can help drive out crime and create a safer environment.”
Anyone with any information, which could help the police catch burglars or those handling or buying stolen property, is asked to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555 111 or GMP’s non-emergency telephone number 0161-872 5050.
