‘Dad’s Army’ Eric dies

SHAW-born actor Eric Longworth who was best known for his role “Dad’s Army” has died at his Peterborough home four weeks after his 90th birthday.
Eric, the son of a salesman in a cotton mill, played pompous town clerk Mr Gordon in several episodes of the popular BBC comedy set in Walmington-on-Sea.
He also appeared in scores of shows such as “Hi De Hi” and “Coronation Street”, six films and adverts after starting his career at Oldham Repertory Theatre in 1946. His first role was a Chinese soldier in “Circle of Chalk” at the Coliseum.
