Strike threat to mail depot

OLDHAM’S Royal Mail depot could be hit by a three-day strike by hundreds of engineers and security staff.
The Communication Workers’ Union said hundreds of staff walked out from 6am yesterday in a row over attendance hours.
There were no picket lines at Oldham’s Hamilton Street depot, unlike Manchester, but CWU deputy general secretary Dave Ward said: “The dispute could have a massive impact on the rest of the mail network as Royal Mail sites depend on these workers to maintain machinery and buildings.”
The union says its employer Romec, which is 51 per cent owned by Royal Mail, had changed attendance times without agreement.
