Family in candle fire escape
Date published: 25 September 2008
A FAMILY of five had to evacuate their home after unattended candles sparked a blaze.
The mother spotted the fire in the dining room of a house in Duchess Street, Shaw, at 3am today and managed to put it out.
But the flames caused smoke damage to the property and she had to be treated for smoke inhalation, although she declined hospital treatment.
Oldham fire station attended and watch commander Dunc Millington said the fire could have been much more serious.
