WANTED — a feisty female singer to front one of Oldham’s most rocking bands.

Mancunian Way, which is made up of pupils at Oldham Music Centre, are a member down after lead singer Zara Kershaw gained a place at the prestigious Brit School in Croydon.

Martin Ashurst, the popular music co-ordinator for Oldham Music Service, said: “We are looking for a confident girl singer who would be fronting the band singing both lead and backing vocals.

“The ability to sing harmonies is also a very important requirement. Lead vocals are shared with our guitarist Andy Limer.

“In an ideal world, instrumental and song-writing ability would also be an asset but this isn’t essential.”

Mancunian Way perform a wide range of styles including 1960s classics through to current songs and also some original material written by band members and students who attend the Music Centre’s song-writing classes.

There are regular opportunities for the band to perform in public and these include in-house end-of-term gigs at the Music Centre and performances at the Queen Elizabeth Hall.

Martin added: “We sometimes use horn sections and string players from the other Oldham Music Centre ensembles based at the Lyceum and have access to recording equipment to produce our own CDs. This is a great opportunity.”

The age range of the band is 14 to 18 and rehearsals are every Thursday night in term time from 5.30-7.30pm.
