JOHN TREGALLES
POLICE are investigating the possible sighting of a dangerous paedophile in Rochdale.
John Tregalles (61) disappeared during his Bolton trial for sexually abusing youngsters earlier this month.
He was sentenced to 20 years in jail after being found guilty in his absence of three counts of raping a child under 16 and a serious sexual assault of a boy under 13.
Tregalles, from Teignmouth, Devon, was also found guilty of three indecent assaults against boys under 13, two of aiding and abetting indecent assault and a physical assault on a girl under 13.
Dr Michele Elliot, chief executive of Kidscape said: “I just cannot understand why this man was given bail when he was facing such serious charges.”
Tregalles, had faced 16 charges of rape and sexual abuse of children between 1986 and 1991 when he lived in Rochdale.
At the weekend, police said there had been one reported sighting of him in Rochdale and they suspected he was still in the Manchester area.
Supt Martin Greenhalgh said: “We are keen to trace this man so he can be brought to justice for the sake of the public.
“He needs to be caught and held accountable for his crimes. I would urge anyone who sees Tregalles not to approach him but to contact the police immediately.”
