TWO burglars terrified a single mother in her home when they broke in and burst into her bedroom.
Colin Miller (26), of no fixed address and Mark Warburton (28), of Woodpark Court, Oldham, were each sentenced to 16 months in prison after admitting burglary. Miller and Warburton knew that the house on Lower Lime Lane, Oldham, was occupied by a single mother and her two children aged three and seven.
The pair were known to the mother as she was a friend of Warburton’s brother.
Miller and Warburton broke into the house through a window but the pair were stopped in their tracks when police arrived.
Miller then went up to the bedroom and pleaded with the mother not to turn them in to the authorities.
The pair tried to escape from the residence but were arrested later that night.
Prosecutor Nicola Amatimo told Minshull Street Crown Court, Manchester said: “Miller went up the stairs in the house and into the bedroom.
He leapt on to the bed and said ‘Don’t grass on me’. Warburton had taken £20 which was found in his pocket.
There was also his finger prints around the window.”
In mitigation, John Gregg said: “He is very disappointed in his actions.
“He has seen been taking medication since.”
On behalf of Warburton, the defence said: “He is a man who is open to change.”
Judge Bernard Lever said: “She must have been utterly terrified.”
“Everyone in Greater Manchester should know that if a person breaks into a house and they turn up in my court, a sentence of imprisonment will follow.”
