Mum’s the word for us mums

Thank goodness for other mothers. I tell you if it weren’t for them I would be boring to death some poor man on the street.
Actually the man at the end of our street would probably be happy of the company.
If I bought him a can of Special Brew that is. Mind you at this stage of the game I’m considering a can of Special Brew myself, because I’m dull.
What with babies sleep patterns, eating patterns, developmental stages, hair growth or lack of it in my boy’s case I’ve become tedious. I’m sure I wasn’t so bland before. I had to be more interesting than this.
When I look back though I can’t remember.
That’s also something that happens when the patter of tiny feet turns to a stampede down your hallway.
I was thinking the other day when baby had gone to sleep, a very rare occasion it has to be said, that I no longer know what to talk about with child-free people.
News? Does the world outside my child exist? Telly? Who has the time to watch it. Politics?
Is it still New Labour? I have nothing to say. At least with mothers you have this constant stream of nonsense to discuss.
From Iggle Piggle to Upsy Daisy, from Big Cook to Little Cook, every day is different and new.
I used to scoff at mothers when I was sans child. I used to shut down when burps and booties and boobs were discussed.
Now they are the only things I think about. Do I wean him now or in a few days time.
Do I try to teach him new words or reiterate old ones. Shall we go out to see the “horsey” even in the pouring rain.
Yes, let’s brave the snow to see “piggy.” Lets see the real live version of the picture in the book we look at every night.
Every night we read the same book, over and over again. Thank goodness for other mothers.
They know the boredom that comes with reading the same book every night.
They know what it’s like to be covered in jam and milk and snot at all times.
They know what it’s like to get 3 hours sleep a night for four months. In fact you lot should be pleased because if it wasn’t for us we’d probably end up talking to you.
