AWARD winners at the Saddleworth in Bloom presentation were told their gardens were getting better and better.
That was the view by parish council chairman, Councillor Pat Lord as the Dunkirk spirit emerged in the face of some wretched weather.

Small garden: 1. Edward Butterworth, Wimberry Close, Greenfield. 2. Jenny Begley, Gartside Street, Delph.
Medium garden: 1.Tom Adamson, Burnedge Lane, Grasscroft. 2. Paul and Pamela Davies, Huddersfield Road, Austerlands. Highly commended: Alice Evans, Warlow Drive, Greenfield, Rosemary Hill, Clough Lane, Grasscroft, Stephanie and Frank Powell, Annisfield Avenue, Greenfield.
Large garden: Norman and Sheila Jolley, of Upper Gatehead Farm, off Gatehead Road, Delph.
Best Blooming pub: 1. The Woolpack, Dobcross. 2. The Hanging Gate, Diggle. Highly commended: Granby Arms, Uppermill, Old Original, Scouthead and Three Crowns, Austerlands.
