ALL SET . . . Anthony plans to walk Hadrian’s Wall dressed as a Roman legionnaire
A GREENFIELD bookshop worker will be trekking along one of Britain’s most famous Roman landmarks in a bid to raise money for Cancer Research.
Anthony Shelmerdine will attempt to walk the length of Hadrian’s Wall in full 4th century Roman Legionnaire uniform. The 30-year-old will embark on his 84-mile mission on Friday, travelling from Wallsend on the River Tyne in the east, to Bowness-on-Solway in the west.
Anthony will live off Roman Legionary rations for the duration of his journey and sleep in a traditional Roman military tent known as a dog tent.
Anthony, who works at a book shop in Manchester, hopes to complete his journey in five days, arriving in Bowness-on-Solway next Tuesday.
He said: “I’m really looking forward to it. I want to raise awareness that one in three people will be affected by cancer at some point in their lives. You can sponsor Anthony at www.justgiving.com/youreinthearmy or call into Ian Allan Bookshop, 5 Piccadilly Station Approach, Manchester.
