Shop chiefs confirm wedding store to close

A POPULAR wedding shop closes its doors for good on Friday after nearly 17 years of trading.
Brides and Grooms, of Shaw, will be shutting up shop in Beal Lane at 5pm.
One Oldhamer, whose friend recently bought her dress from the store, said that her friend received a letter from the shop around a week ago saying that anyone who had ordered a dress had to go and pick it up, because they were a fire risk and that the shop would no longer be able to carry out any alterations.
She said: “My friend went into the shop, but was told her dress hadn’t arrived yet. She had paid a £500 deposit for it and she’s getting married at the beginning of November, so in the end they offered her the display one. She’s going to have to fork out more money now for it to be altered and steam cleaned.
“Soon after somebody told me that she had been sent a letter telling her to pick up her dress because the shop would be closing on Friday.
“My friend was lucky in the end, but we’re really concerned that there might be a lot of other brides who paid huge deposits for dresses which might not have arrived yet and have no idea that the shop is going to close.”
The shop was taken over by new management around 18 months ago. Sitting alongside dresses from international bridal houses, including Dizzie Lizzie and Ronald Joyce, are men’s formalwear and confirmation dresses.
The website also boasts a fabulous range of evening wear and exciting prom dresses, with a range of hen night products also on offer.
When the Chronicle contacted Brides and Grooms, they confirmed that the shop would be closing, but declined to give any further details.
