Fans in minor clashes

POLICE have played down reports of violence when rival football fans clashed after a Latics game.
Officers had to intervene when pockets of fighting broke out between Oldham Athletic and Huddersfield Town fans following Saturday’s League One match.
There were no reports of disorder inside the ground but trouble flared as away fans were escorted to the train station with accusations of missiles and punches being thrown.
Match commander, chief inspector Rob Tinsley, said: “The match itself went off with no disorder.
“Both sets of fans behaved well and there was nothing to indicate there would be any problems between them after the match.
“There were a few pockets of disorder involving a small minority of opposing fans. Officers were quickly dispatched to bring these situations under control with minimal disruption to the majority who had gone to enjoy their day out.”
