MEMBERS of Oldham Mountain Rescue Team were put through their emergency drills on the hills around Diggle — with the help of the RAF.
Pretend casualties were winched to safety aboard a bright yellow RAF Sea King helicopter as the team practised their skills to perfection.
Team treasurer Peter Hyde said: “When a real emergency happens everything needs to be up to speed. We have recruited new members recently and we need to train them in the use of the helicopter.
“When the real emergency comes they will know exactly what is required of them.”
Flt Lt Matt Crosby-James of the helicopter crew, said: “Out on the hill, in an emergency, time is of the essence to save lives.”
The helicopter spent nearly five hours with the team, before returning to RAF Leconfield, near Hull.
The helicopter took off and landed from a field off Running Hill Lane, Diggle. Mountain rescue officials paid special thanks to landowner Sharon White.
