FAILSWORTH residents interested in joining the newly-formed Failsworth Area Committee are being urged to step forward.

Local people who want to make a difference in the community can become a co-optee.

A total of eight are needed to help get involved in decision making about local issues.

The appointments should have taken place during the very first Failsworth Area Committee earlier this month.

But the matter was deferred after elected members raised fears that the opportunity to join had not been properly advertised to all residents.

John Norris, neighbourhood manager for Failsworth, said: “We are looking for eight co-optees, four from both wards in Failsworth.

“Working with local councillors and council officers, co-optees can make a real difference to how the area committee operates and what its priorities are.

“If successful, people should not worry about being thrown in at the deep end as all co-optees will be given training and support from the neighbourhood managers team.”

The next committee meeting will see the election of a chairman and vice-chairman, the election of a representative to serve on Oldham Partnership Steering Group, the election of sub-groups and the decision on delegated budgets.
