A CAT owner was left horrified after discovering the burned body of her pet dumped in bushes with string tied round its neck.

In the second brutal cat attack within weeks in Oldham, three-year-old Spud was discovered on Friday under bushes in Stoneleigh Park. Leaves had been stuffed in its mouth.

Owner Julie Smith (40), of Vulcan Street, Derker, said: “It was so upsetting to find him like that.

“He was a lovely white cat with black marks, He had an extra toe on each paw.

“But when we found him partially buried under leaves, all the fur on one side of his body was singed and brown.

“I know what I’d like to do to the people who did this.”

Spud went missing three days earlier, but Mrs Smith wasn’t worried as he had spent days away from home before.

When neighbours told her Spud had been found in the park, Mrs Smith thought he had been run over and had gone there to die.

It was only when she went to the park that she made the grim discovery.

She said: “Despite being a stray, he was so loving.

“He was a real family cat and my 12-year-old daughter Paige, who looked after him, was crying when she found out what had happened.

“After bringing him home in a blanket, we called the RSPCA but it can’t do anything because there are no witnesses.

“The people who did this must be sick.”

Last month, Angel a six-month-old kitten died after being kicked by two thugs in Coldhurst and then lashed with a metal bike chain.

Vets at County End, High Street, Lees, said it was one of the worst cruelty cases they had come across.

A reward of £1,200 was pledged by horrified readers to catch the culprits.
