A TEENAGER is in hospital with serious head injuries after he was attacked in Yorkshire Street.
The 19-year-old from Salford was knocked to the ground and kicked and punched in the head at 2.30am yesterday.
He was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital and later transferred to Hope Hospital, Salford, where he is in a serious but stable condition.
It is believed that his attackers got into a taxi which they shared with two women and were later dropped off in Victoria Street, Chadderton.
The first offender was white, stocky, with short spiky hair shaved at the side, and was wearing a white T-shirt.
The second was white, slim, with brown hair and was wearing a dark blue T-shirt.
Det Insp Andy Meek of Oldham CID said: “This was a savage assault on a young man who has been left with very serious head injuries.
“The initial prognosis was that the victim might have suffered life-threatening injuries, but although he has since stabilised it is clear he was brutally attacked.
“We are particularly keen to speak to the two women who shared the taxi with the two men we believe were responsible for the attack.
“I would urge anyone who got into a taxi in Yorkshire Street with two men at around the time of the attack to come forward because you could hold vital information.
“We will treat all information with discretion and respect.”
People with information are urged to call Oldham CID on 0161-856 8951 or the Crimestoppers charity (anonymously) on 0800-555 111.
