Appeal is close to its target
Date published: 09 October 2008
OCTOBER is breast cancer awareness month, and the Royal Oldham Hospital’s Link4Pink appeal has thrown out a challenge for local people to help it reach its target.
The £60,000 appeal to build a conservatory at the hospital’s Victoria Breast Care Unit was launched in July.
It is now nearing its target — thanks to fundraisers who have tackled gruelling cycle rides to coffee mornings. Organisers want people to make a final push to raise the last few pounds that will mean a start can be made on the project.
The conservatory is needed to relieve pressure on space in the cramped breast care unit.
It will also give women and their families more pleasant and relaxing surroundings as they wait for the results of tests.
Friday, October 24, is the official In the Pink Day, and appeal bosses are urging Oldhamers to wear pink and pay £1 to help them reach their goal.
Link4Pink badges and trolley tokens, costing £1.50 each, are available for individual fundraising events.
For information on how to get them or run a fundraising event, contact Jan Bolton on 0161-908 4497 or email her at charity@pat.nhs.uk.
