OLDHAM Council has a new interim director of finance, IT and resources.
Peter Timmins takes up the post following the move of John Bland to Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority as its head of finance.
Mr Timmins joins Oldham after a long career in senior financial appointments, most recently the Department of Work and Pensions.
There he led on a £1.2 billion programme looking at departmental performance arrangements and contributed to the department’s service objectives among other tasks. Before this, Mr Timmins tackled senior finance roles on a permanent and consultant basis at North Wiltshire, Milton Keynes, Southwark and Islington councils.
Councillor Lynne Thompson, cabinet member for finance and resources, said: “I am delighted that we have secured the services of Peter.
“He comes with a great pedigree and will have an impact on helping the council to address some challenging issues over the coming months.”
Mr Timmins said: “The council is dealing with a range of issues that will improve financial performance and responsiveness.
“These include matters such as better strategic financial management and also work on the second phase of its partnership with Unity.
“Oldham Council has good staff and clear direction and I am looking forward to being able to assist in this process.”
