Mum’s shock at out-of-date baby food

A CLARKSFIELD mum is urging parents to check the labels of baby food jars after she almost fed her son a meal that was 15 months out of date.

Tricia Noone, of Balfour Street, bought a jar of food for her 13-month-old son Liam from her corner shop on Friday.

But as she prepared the meal she noticed the expiry date was 19/7/07 — two months before Liam was born!

Tricia (24) said: “I was absolutely fuming and couldn’t stop thinking about what would have happened to Liam if I hadn’t checked the label and he had eaten the food.

“If it had been a tin of beans it might not have been so bad but you’ve got to be really careful with baby food — Liam could have ended up in hospital.

“There are a lot of families with young children living around here so I wanted to warn other parents to always check the labels on their baby food because the potential consequences don’t bear thinking about.”

Rukhsana Kauser, who works at the shop which is owned by her sister Shabana, said: “I am very sorry that the customer was sold out of date baby food and I understand why she was upset.

“It was an honest mistake and it has never happened before as we are usually extremely careful about checking our stock. We will make sure that this does not happen again.”
