CHADDERTON Historical Society has found a unique and lasting way to honour members who have died.
Current member Brian Kennedy designed and built a lectern with the official Chadderton coat of arms, plus the names of 13 members no longer alive, including ex-presidents Ralph Semple and Sid Jacobs.
The name of founder member Herbert Buckley also appears on the lectern, which will kept at the society’s base at Chadderton Library for talks and lectures.
The group decided to have the lectern blessed by The Rev Alan Cooke, vicar of St Mark’s Church, Chadderton, and also asked him to be the society’s chaplain.
