TROPHY TIME! The Collettes with their awards
OLDHAM’S Collettes dance troupe is making quite a name for itself.
The girls recently took part in the annual end of season championship of the Mid-Cheshire Adjudicating Panel —
Britain’s leading carnival organisation.
And the Collettes distinguished themselves by winning 12 awards.
These include best Oldham troupe and the most entertaining. Two of the teams also became end-of-season champions.
Spokesman Gary Melia said: “This is really big news to anyone in the carnival world and we think that Oldham should know that the champions live right here.”
The troupe has 50 dancers and is based at Beulah Baptist Church, Hollinwood.
Practice takes place on Tuesdays from 6pm and on Sundays from 1pm. All girls are welcome and leaders say this is a good time to join as new routines are being worked out.
