Latics Crossbar Challenge
IT was role reversal for Latics fans as they took centrestage on the pitch at the launch of an exciting competition.
Five fans took part in the Latics Crossbar Challenge as their heroes took a break at half-time on Sunday during the 4-0 battering of Hereford.
The contest involves up to six fans at every home game trying to hit the crossbar from around 40 yards, with two season tickets valid for 10 years up for grabs for everyone successful.
Sadly the supporters weren’t as on target as the Latics players and their shots went astray — although some missed only marginally. But they still received a Latics replica shirt for their efforts. And with at least 18 league and cup matches at Boundary Park until the end of the season there will be plenty more opportunities for hotshot fans to aim for the fantastic prize.
The competition is organised in association with the Oldham Evening Chronicle, the club’s official media partner, with four readers’ names drawn out after sending in special coupons printed in the newspaper and Latics club staff choosing two more supporters in the minutes before kick-off.
A 10-year season ticket would cost just over £3,000 at today’s prices and if everyone hit the bar the club would have to underwrite a bill of nearly £700,000.
