Warning over quarry
Date published: 14 October 2008
THE father of a man who fell 40ft at a Saddleworth quarry has urged Oldham Council to block off the entrance to prevent injuries among adventure-seeking youngsters.
The man, who did not want to be named, spoke as his 20-year-old son underwent treatment at the Royal Oldham Hospital.
His son was climbing rocks at the quarry at Cooper Street, Springhead, on Sunday, when he tumbled to the ground.
At first it was thought that his injuries were serious, but he is now recovering.
His father said: “My son has broken bones and needed 17 stitches.
“I want to ask people not to let their children go anywhere near this quarry. I would not want anyone to go through what I have been through.”
