RSPCA shelter reopens
Date published: 20 October 2008
THE RSPCA’S Rhodes Bank, Oldham, branch was due to reopen today after a mystery illness forced it to close for three weeks.
It was hit by fading kitten syndrome, a disease which is blamed for killing around a third of the nation’s cats before they reach 12 weeks.
Several kittens contracted the illness at Rhodes Bank, and bosses decided to shut.
l The Rhodes Bank branch hosts a regular mobile vet clinic for pets owned by people on benefits, and it is next due to visit next Wednesday, October 29, (8.30am - 1.30pm).
Branch manager Mandy Tierney said: “Dogs and cats can be vaccinated at a greatly reduced charge, which safeguards them from diseases like cat flu, from which they can lose their eyes; and parvo virus, which can kill dogs.”
It costs £10 for a vet check, plus £5 for annual injections. Neutering costs only £10 — knocking more than £100 from the price charged by some vets.”
