Think Pink and make a difference

Date published: 21 October 2008

FRIDAY is Think Pink day at the Royal Oldham Hospital, where staff in a number of departments will don a pink outfit in return for £1.

The money raised will go towards the link4pink appeal to give a boost to women who face the ordeal of tests or treatment for breast cancer.

The hospital’s Victoria Breast Unit operates in cramped conditions, and consultant breast surgeon Maria Bramley is heading a £60,000 appeal to build a conservatory. Doctors carry out as many tests as possible in one day to keep the trauma of waiting to find out if someone has breast cancer to a minimum.

But it means patients can spend several hours in the unit, and the aim is to offer a more pleasant area for women and their families to spend the time.

The appeal is approaching its thirdway mark of £20,000, and local schools are being urged to join in Friday’s Think Pink day to help make a difference.

Four schools, none of which are from Oldham, have signed up to the idea, and Jan Bolton, the hospital’s fund-raising boss, has thrown out an invitation to Oldham’s schools and businesses to join in and help the appeal reach its target.
