Date published: 21 October 2008

PHOTOGRAPHERS are being asked to focus on an Oldham waterway to compete for a cash prize.

The Huddersfield Narrow Canal is a landscape photographer’s dream come true.

It twists and turns from Ashton to Mossley and into Saddleworth where it produces some of its most scenic views.

Now, the Huddersfield Canal Society is looking for 12 of the best pictures as entries in the Huddersfield Narrow category for its 2010 canals competition.

The contest is open to all and carries a top prize of £50 while other winners and runners-up will also receive cash prizes.

Mono or colour shots taken on conventional or digital cameras will be accepted but entries must be in the form of prints only, which should be 6ins by 4ins to 8ins by 6ins maximum.

There is no entry fee for HCS members or junior entries but a flat fee of £5 is payable for senior entrants, irrespective of the number of prints submitted.

In sending prints, the competitor agrees to allow reproduction of their photos at the society’s discretion. Cheques should be made payable to Huddersfield Canal Society.

The closing date is Friday. Entries with a maximum of five prints in each category should be sent to Photographic Competition, Huddersfield Canal Society, Transhipment Warehouse, Wool Road, Dobcross, Oldham OL3 5QR.

Entrants are asked to include their name, address and category entered on the back of each print. Enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope if you wish your entry to be returned.
