Library looking so different

GROUNDWORK will add the finishing touches to Broadway Library’s outdoor area on Saturday after weeks of restoration work.
Volunteers have been transforming the Chadderton library’s garden for Make a Difference Day — the UK’s biggest day of hands-on volunteering which takes place between 10am and 1pm.
So far it has taken them 15 hours to build a path, renew the garden, repaint benches and planters, and to create Disney character boards.
All that is left is to lay aggregate to make the area accessible for wheelchairs and prams.
Oldham Youth Offending Service will be helping out on Saturday, installing the character boards.
Groundwork project officer Andrew Poinen said: “Broadway Library has a large green surrounding area that, due to a lack of maintenance, has not been utilised as much as it could.
“The work we have done over the last few weeks has greatly improved the overall look.
“It is now a much more attractive area for residents and particularly appealing to children.”
