Hospital work under way
Date published: 23 October 2008
WORK has started on Oldham’s multi-million pound state-of-the-art cancer treatment centre.
The facility, at the Royal Oldham Hospital, will give patients access to faster treatment as they will not have to travel to Withington’s Christie Hospital.
The Christie has nine linear accelerators — machines used for radiotherapy treatment — and has three more planned, but has no room for further expansion. A centre has also been approved at Salford’s Hope Hospital and the satellite developments would add another six machines.
