THE family of a former electrician are urging his ex-colleagues to get in touch to help them trace his history of exposure to asbestos.

Christopher Scully, from Royton, died in September, 2007, from asbestos-related lung cancer. Family members are now looking for information so they can launch a compensation claim. It is believed Mr Scully was exposed to asbestos while working as an electrician over a 20-year period from the 1960s to 80s.

Thompson’s Solicitors wish to speak to former colleagues who worked with Mr Scully at various Manchester employers, including:

S Barratt & Co Limited in Fallowfield (1961 to 1965).

S Dickinson Limited, Manchester (1965 to 1967).

AE Sudlow & Company Limited, Manchester (1967 to 1968).

Willand Engineering Co Ltd, Chadderton (1967/68, 1971/72 and 1986/87).

Micro Design Associates Limited, Manchester (1987 to 1990).

Norweb, Manchester (1989 to 1992).

Thompson’s wishes to hear from anyone who worked for any of those companies and who may have any information about the working environment during the time Mr Scully was employed.

Before his illness, Mr Scully had been an active man who enjoyed gardening and DIY.

In October, 2006, he visited his GP after suffering chest problems. Six months later, he was diagnosed with an untreatable lung tumour.

An inquest concluded that Mr Scully died from lung cancer, to which exposure to asbestos was a contributory factor.

Joanne Candlish, client representative at Thompson’s Solicitors’ North-West office, said: “Asbestos-related diseases will cause 10,000 deaths a year by 2010 and will be the biggest industrial killer of all time.

“It is important we trace Christopher Scully’s former workmates so we can build up an accurate description of his working conditions.

“It is important we find out which employers were responsible for his exposure to asbestos.”
