‘Home Sweet Home’ deal

RESIDENTS suffering at the hands of nuisance neighbours will be given help to address their problems — thanks to a neighbourhood agreement.

New Deal for Communities is launching its third neighbourhood agreement, entitled “Home Sweet Home”, tomorrow.

The agreement is a contract between residents and agencies to work together to address problems in their area. It follows previous agreements such as “Green and Clean” and “Peace and Quiet”.

The agreement outlines what they should do and where to go if they are unhappy about where they live, and want to know more about their rights. It also asks residents questions about the role of their registered social landlord (RSL) and whether nuisance neighbours are a problem.

This agreement has been developed by agencies providing housing services in the Medlock Vale area, who are working together with The Neighbourhood Team (TNT) residents’ group.

The launch event, at 5pm, for homeowners, landlords and tenants will be the ideal opportunity to share information.

Michael Meacher, MP for Oldham West and Royton, will be supporting the event and there will be activities for children.

Abid Jaweed, chairman of TNT residents’ group, said: “We are often asked questions by residents about issues related to their home including who they can go to if they have problems with their landlords or neighbours.

“We hope this agreement will make it easier for people to find the right department instantly and get a quick solution to a distressing problem.”
