TOM Lord is on a high after conquering one of the wonders of the world for charity.

Tom, from Werneth, is now back home after trekking the Great Wall of China.

Over a five-day period, intrepid Tom hiked along some of the most spectacular sections of the Great Wall and through remote villages seldom visited by foreigners.

It was a tough challenge, with some steep climbs and descents, but Tom was left delighted with his experience and achievements.

He raised money for disability charity Scope, having raised a minimum of £2,700 in sponsorship to take part.

Participants trekked on average five hours a day and Tom trained hard to make sure he was in peak physical condition.

He said: “This China trek was a fantastic way of doing something amazing for a really great cause. I’d recommend it to everyone — not only did I get to visit one of the most exciting cities in the world and experience some of the Chinese culture, but I know that the money raised will help Scope support disabled people to achieve equality.”

Daniel Larcey, from Scope, said: “Trekking the Great Wall was no easy feat —participants put a lot of effort in everyday. However, their efforts were rewarded with some stunning views.”

Scope was one of first charities to organise overseas challenge events and has raised nearly £23 million through this form of fundraising to date.

The money raised will help Scope provide vital services for people with cerebral palsy and supports its “Time to Get Equal” campaign — which fights for equality for all disabled people.

If anyone thinks they are up to this type of challenge, Scope is still signing up participants to the Great Wall of China trek next September.
